The first version of the PS3 received a lot of bad press; the initial price of the console was much higher than consumers anticipated. Forced up by the costly Blu-ray player (a standalone one back at launch was around £250!) the PS3 price at launch was a whopping £425! Costing far too much for the average gamer to afford.
The PS3 Slim arrived to drop the price to a much for affordable £299 and has continued to drop ever since, offering bundles for under £200 - almost unheard of a few years ago.
When Sony launched the PS3 Super Slim on September 28th, 2012, the PlayStation 3 became even greater value for money. Due to the reduced manufacturing costs, bundles for the console were able to offer higher processing power, a smaller device alongside A class games at launch for just over £210 - a record low for the Japanese electronics giant.
